Portugal, renowned for its stunning landscapes and rich heritage, offers a unique treasure in its rich musical history. From Fado to rock and new diverse folk, the country’s music reaches into many unique, regional traditions encapsulating the essence of the country. Why Portugal and Starvox Entertainment present Celebração: Discover The Sounds of Portugal a 5-day concert series featuring twelve Portuguese based artists appearing live on Toronto’s only fully immersive stage. The series also includes the Canadian debut screenings of two music documentary feature films.

From 14 to 26 February, Lighthouse ArtSpace Toronto (1 Yonge Street) will transform into a vibrant showcase of Portuguese culture which is as much a musical celebration as it is an unforgettable journey through Portugal's rich landscape. Concerts, which range from contemporary pop to folk and innovative indie performances will take place each night in the intimate Black Box Theatre as well as the gallery which offers a unique sensory experience that marries musical performances with large scale video projections.

“The opportunity to present a fully immersive musical experience in Toronto is something that no other venue in the city has the capability to achieve,” says Corey Ross, Starvox Entertainment CEO. “We are excited about the opportunity to work with Why Portugal to program a unique music series that showcases these musicians and also offers Torontonians a chance to escape our winter and be transported to the breathtaking country that inspired these artists”.

One of the performers, Neil Leyton, a Canadian Portuguese musician, currently living in Lisbon, Portugal says, “The artists participating all have a unique perspective on the modern music scene happening in Portugal right now. Their performances draw on a deep musical tradition which are strong and vibrant with just music alone; however, pairing them with this new wave of projection mapping technology will help us tell our country’s story in a much more impactful way”.

The series is supported by Small World Music, a leading live music presenter with more than two decades of showcasing culturally diverse artists to audience across the Greater Toronto Area and ACAPO [Alliance of Portuguese Clubs and Associations of Ontario] a leading promoter of Portuguese heritage across the GTA. Portugal Week celebrations have been among ACAPO’s trademark events for several decades.

Celebração: Discover The Sounds of Portugal offers multiple performances on each of the 6 evenings as well as the Canadian premiere of two music documentaries.
